Rotary was founded in 1905 in the USA by a young lawyer from Chicago, Paul Harris and a few fellow business people, who got together in a spirit of friendship. It came to the British Isles six years later. The movement has now spread to over 160 countries (there are only 192 worldwide), with more than 32,000 clubs and over 1.3 million members. All Rotary clubs have one basic ideal - the "Ideal of Service", which is thoughtfulness of and helpfulness to others.
We endeavour to apply the following maxim -
The 4-way test
Of the things we think, say or do:
- Is it the TRUTH?
- Is it FAIR to all concerned?
- Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
- Will it be beneficial to all concerned?
Rotary came to our town as follows: -
